American recording studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota, existing under this name from 1953 to 1957, built and run by five-time Grammy-winning engineer Bruce Swedien.
Housed in a historic building on Nicollet Avenue that was the original home to the Garrick Movie Theater (June 8, 1914), later the LaSalle Theatre (October 1932 to 1950). Converted to a recording studio by Swedien in 1953. Then sold to Kay Bank Recording Company, Inc. (August 12, 1957), and named Kay Bank Recording Corp. Universal Audio Corporation purchased the studio in 1967 and named it Universal Audio Recording. Micside occupied the space from 1970-1973 and named it Micside Studios, renovated and renamed in 1973 as Cookhouse Recording Studios. Cookhouse opened a second location in 1983, and closed its Nicollet Avenue location in 1984. Next occupant of the property was Nicollet Studios (1985-1988), associated with Twin/Tone Records. The studio was purchased by Creation Audio Recording, Inc., in October 1988 and named Creation Audio. Still under the same ownership as of October 2021.
