Independent Recording Laboratories

US recording company formed in 1922. Supplied masters to The Arto Company and its affiliated labels, and probably many other minor labels in the early 1920s. IRL recruited Adrian Schubert to serve as musical director in 1923, and his house orchestra recorded prolifically under numerous pseudonyms for various dime-store labels through the late 1920s. Independent was effectively taken over by its primary client, the Regal Record Company, Inc. in 1924.
