CD pressing plant in Langenhagen, near Hanover, Germany (spelt "Hannover" in German), operating under this name between 1982 and 1986.
On August 17, 1982, the world's first mass production of Compact Discs began in Langenhagen.
Usually printed on the traycard as: "Manufactured by PolyGram, Hanover, West Germany.", or "CD is manufactured by PolyGram in Hanover, West Germany." or "CD is manufactured by PolyGram, Hannover, West Germany."
Alternatively, as "Made in W. Germany by PolyGram" on the disc face.
Often, the text is not removed on represses by the successor plants (so, still credit this plant with the role as found on the release).
A PolyGram CD pressing for a non-PolyGram label (e.g. Warner Bros. Records, Virgin, EMI, RCA, etc.) is often represented in the CD matrix by a serial number—usually after the catalog number—formatted like "XXXX XXX YY", e.g. 2895 901 01 (e.g. 9990998, 8502444, 2488447). Some CDs manufactured in 1982 and early 1983 may alternately format the serial number as "XXXXXXX YY" (e.g. 4343206, 13875984, 3736171).
The exceptions are when an outside label reuses the glass master from one of PolyGram's in-house releases (e.g. 5563631, which reuses the glass master from the Polydor-distributed 734800).
Enter only XXXX XXX and XXXXXXX as label catalog number; the YY is variable (probably stamper #).
Renamed to PDO, Germany in January 1986.
