Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Hollywood

0 releases

U.S. pressing plant in Hollywood, California, in operation from 1948 to 1964.

Columbia constructed a new $1.5 million 80,000 square-foot plant in Hollywood that went into operation in March 1948, and closed their plant on Romaine Street. The Hollywood plant closed with the opening of Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria, in 1964.

There were two plants operated by Columbia in Hollywood:
6626 Romaine Street (Zip code 90038) in operation 1935 to 1948 (ARC Pressing Plant, Hollywood).
8723 Alden Drive (Zip code 90048) in operation from 1948 to 1964.

Identification:
This plant was known to use both a stamped "H" and etched "H" in runouts, usually perpendicular to the label. This is not to be confused with the RCA Records Pressing Plant, Hollywood, "H" stamp, which differs slightly from Columbia's. If in doubt, check the diameter of the pressing ring on the center labels: 69mm = Columbia plant; 70mm = RCA plant. If still in doubt, please consult the forum.

Specific to 1956-57 releases, the five-pointed star (☆) stamped in runouts is an identifier for Columbia Recording Studios, as seen on and [r2421853].

Known to have pressed for:
- Mercury Records (see [r2163196]).
- Reprise Records (see [r10372211]).
- Red Dot Records (see [r13531600]).
- Bolshi Records (see [r13582885]).
- Arvee (see [r2949582]).
- Verve Records (see [r29891458])
