Founded in Barcelona as Belter, S.L. in 1954 by musician Joaquín Alfonso Navas and lawyer José Ramón Batallal was renamed Discos Belter, S.A. in 1962 after a company restructuring.
The company consisted of several record labels, the music publishing company Ediciones Musicales Belter, S.L., the recording studio Estudios Belter built in 1965, the pressing plant Fabricsa the cassette manufacturer Duplicsa purchases and the in-house graphic design department Departamento Creativo Belter.
Discos Belter, S.A. also offered distribution services and was a licensee for Motown, Pye Records, Salsoul Records, Prelude Records,Penny Farthing (since 1972), etc.
After declaring bankruptcy in 1984, big part of the company's back catalogue was acquired by Divulgación de Cassettes, S.A. (Divucsa Music, S.A.)
Also did a join venture on Zambra label with Discos Ensayo, S.A. company.
