London based manufacturing company.
Principal activities - plating, pressing, manufacturing of gramophone records and cassettes.
Established in August 1955 by Marcel Rodd, originally to press and distribute a catalogue of nursery rhymes and bedtime stories. Later the company acquired the catalogue of the Concert Hall Record Club, the leading American manufacturer of budget line classical music. To distribute the records, Rodd established a mail order business with huge success and by the late 1950s Allied had grown into a successful manufacturer and direct-to-consumer distributor.
In 1960, Allied bought the bankrupt Saga Records Ltd., including its large catalogue, followed by the acquisition of Trojan Recordings Ltd. in 1975, along with it the catalog of Trojan Records.
After 1982, Allied Records Ltd. only continued to press LPs, until 1985.
In 1986, Allied Records Ltd. was dissolved by parent Art & Sound Ltd. and the plant was closed.
How to identify Allied Records Ltd.:
ALI or (ALI) on its own, etched in the runout groove areas. In this case, please add as "Pressed By".
When 'ALI' appears in conjunction with S-x, WEA Records Pressing Plant, West Drayton would have supplied plates to be pressed by Allied Records Ltd. (until 1981).
When 'ALI' appears in conjunction with a Lyntone number (e.g. LYN-17054), Lyntone Recordings Ltd. would have supplied plates to be pressed by Allied Records Ltd. (until 1984).
In both cases, add Plated At for WEA and Lyntone, and Pressed By Allied.
