One of the most well-known and advanced recording and mastering studios in South Africa, situated in Johannesburg and launched in 1979. In 1982 it joined the Gallo Group.

The studio was established by [url=https://www.discogs.com/label/248079-Gramophone-Record-Co-Pty-Ltd]ex-Gramophone Record Company[/url] salesman Matt Mann and producer [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/455433-Dan-Hill-2]Dan Hill[/url], the duo that founded RPM Records Records in 1967 (located in the same building). Drummer/producer Kevin Kruger later joined, along with John Lindemann who became the studio’s first manager.

Notable and international artists who have recorded here include Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa, Don Laka, Manfred Mann, Simon Le Bon, Simply Red, and of course Paul Simon's "Graceland". Producers who likewise made RPM their home include West Nkosi, Hamilton Nzimande, Tom Mkhize and Richard Siluma.

In 1991 the three-studio facility was renamed to Downtown Studios.
