Established in 1955 as a mail order record club, releasing all styles of music. In 1960 Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. EMI acquired a controlling interest (75%), however they did not publicly admit owing the company and subsidiaries until 1965. The World Record Club Limited operated as an immediate subsidiary of The Gramophone Co. Ltd. until 1973 (later EMI Records Ltd.). On the 1st Nov 1973 the company was renamed World Records Limited.
