Allied Record Manufacturing Company

In 1933, the Allied Phonograph And Record Mfg. Co. took over Columbia's vacated West Coast pressing plant. By 1940 the company dropped "Phonograph" from its name and continued to operate under this name until 1961, when it changed to General Record Manufacturing Company after becoming a subsidiary of Precision Radiation Instruments, Inc. In the 1930s-40s Allied produced high quality laminated pressings for dozens of independent labels, including Ammor, Bronze, Columbia, Hollywood Hot Shots, C.P. MacGregor Studios, Specialty and transcriptions for U.S. Department Of The Treasury and War Department. One of the pioneers of plastic pressings, Allied switched to vinyl exclusively in the later 1940s. It was also one of the first plants to press LPs and 45s for independent labels. The Company reverted to this name on 16 August 1962; on the same day Allied Record Company was born when Draken Broadhead (former owner of Allied Record Manufacturing Company) bought back the Allied name.
