The Schoolboys

Real Name: Winston Matthews, Colin Johnson

Jamaican ska vocal duo.

The Schoolboys may have played truant from class to take part in Justin Yap's 1963 session at Federal Studios. The Duo of Winston "Pipe" Matthews and Colin Johnson had already recorded for Prince Buster by then, and went on to cut sides for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd before Colin's dad ended their career as a duo. Undeterred, Matthews went on to form The Wailing Souls. Whatever happened to Colin is not known. Similarly it is not confirmed that The College Boys (4) who also recorded for Buster may be the same group.

Prince Buster recorded a group called The Schoolgirls about the same time (1964), bit it isn't clear if there was any connection between the two groups.

Do not confuse with the schoolboys (5), a reggae group that featured a young Jacob Miller.
