Audio engineer
Born 1928
Died June 28, 1974 in Cuernavaca, Mexico
Engineer at Capitol Records until about 1956 or 1957 when ex-Capitol colleague Roy DuNann persuaded him to join Contemporary Records. Founded Holzer Audio Engineering (HAECO) in 1961, though he continued at Contemporary for a few more years and introduced Bernie Grundman to Lester Koenig, the owner of Contemporary. Later worked for his friend Herb Alpert at A&M Records. HAECO developed the (now obsolete) Holzer Audio Engineering-Compatible Stereo Generator to resolve amplitude problems when analog stereo recordings are reproduced in mono (such as in old LP pressings or on AM radio). Died shortly after sustaining injuries in a plane crash which occurred during an attempted take off. His son, Marcus Holzer, continued HAECO.
