Born 24.05.1956 in New York, New York.
Worked as a session drummer in the early 1970s. Later formed the New York City Players, a band that would evolve into Cameo in the mid-1970s. Blackmon has been the band's leader since then.

In 1983 Blackmon founded the Atlanta Artists record label.
