Dom Phillips

British journalist based in Brazil from 2007.
Born in Bebington, Merseyside on 23 July 1964, Phillips moved to Bristol in 1988 where he started a magazine called New City Press.
This led in 1991 to a job with Mixmag Presents as assistant editor. He became editor in December 1993 and remained at the magazine until his departure in 1999.
In 2007 he moved to São Paulo, Brazil to write his book Superstar DJs Here We Go! which was an account of the superstar DJ and super-club years from 1992 to 2000; the book was published in 2009.
Phillips remained in Brazil and became a freelance correspondent for a wide range of outlets including the Washington Post, the Times, the Financial Times and, most frequently in recent years, the Guardian. He was killed on 5 June 2022, aged 57, during a reporting trip to the Amazon.
