Lootpack

Lootpack is a hip-hop trio from Oxnard, California, known for their jazz-influenced beats and intricate lyricism. The group consists of Madlib (Quasimoto), Wildchild (Jack Brown), and DJ Romes (DJ Romes). Producer Kan Kick was also an early member before pursuing a solo career. Lootpack first gained attention in the mid-1990s, making their debut on Tha Alkaholiks' Coast II Coast album in 1995. Their breakthrough came with the release of their 1999 debut album Soundpieces: Da Antidote! on Stones Throw Records, a project that showcased Madlib’s signature off-kilter production and the group’s unique chemistry. While Lootpack never released another full-length album, its members remained highly active. Madlib went on to become one of hip-hop’s most celebrated producers, working with artists like MF DOOM, J Dilla, and Freddie Gibbs. Wildchild and DJ Romes also pursued solo projects, maintaining the group’s underground legacy.
Lootpack is regarded as a key influence in the underground hip-hop scene, helping to establish Stones Throw Records as a major force in independent rap.
