Clement "Coxsone" Dodd

Real Name: Clement Seymour Dodd

Born: Jan 26, 1932, Kingston, Jamaica.
Died: May 4, 2004, Kingston, Jamaica of a heart attack.

Legendary Jamaican producer, recording pioneer and music entrepreneur, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd established the famous Studio One Studio and record label at 13 Brentford Road, Kingston, in 1963 after making his name in the island's competitive sound system scenario where he would play imported records and exclusively recorded dub plates [originally on 78s] to win over the audiences. In recognition of the importance of Mr. Dodd and his studio the street was renamed by the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (the city government) to Studio One Boulevard on May 1st, 2004 from Brentford Road, four days before his sudden death.
After a handful of early outings on Down Beat (2), Dodd masterminded several labels, such as Rough Diamond Records, C And N Records, Sabastians, Sensational, Coxsone Records, Cariboo, Wincox Records, Mu-zik City Records, D Darling, Supreme Records (10), Rolando & Powie, Worldisc, Money Disc, and Coxson.
