US-American singer, songwriter and producer born in 1936 in Ocilla, Georgia but generally connected to the NY/NJ area. Kerr's first group was [a633382] along with Sidney Barnes. After a stint in the military he sang lead for [a383327] prior to signing a songwriting deal with Motown / Jobete and learning production in Detroit from [a634114]. After his deal with Motown Kerr returned to New Jersey where he wrote and/or produced artists including [a346244], The Whatnauts, Manhattans, [a271214], [a284544], Phyllis Hyman, [a386343], and especially for the roster of Sylvia Robinson's [l52106]. He is the father of Sandy Kerr and [a369642], and brother of Napoleon Kerr.
