The Woody Herman Big Band

American jazz big band. Historically, the name 'Woody Herman Big Band' was used in two separate phases of the Woody Herman orchestra.
The first short appearance was the publication of the Mars records recordings in 1963 by Verve Records under the title 'Hey! Heard The Herd?'. The ensemble performing on these recordings was called 'The Woody Herman Big Band'.
The second appearance of this name was in the late stage of Woody's band 1976 and later, when the band was often touring in America and abroad. The band of Woody Herman used this name as only name in its last stage after 1981. The big band was used synonymously with the Woody Herman orchestra and was used until his death in 1987.
