DGC

2 releases

An acronym for David Geffen Company, which was used for a Geffen Records subsidiary created in 1990 to focus on more progressive sounds than its parent label’s more mainstream fare. Following the sale of Geffen to MCA in 1990, DGC's distribution moved to MCA on 1 January 1991 for the US, and to BMG on 1 April 1991 outside the US.

Wound down in the late 1990s as most of its artists were absorbed by either Geffen Records or Interscope Records when the Universal Music Group purchased PolyGram in 1999 and Geffen became part of Interscope Records.

However, DGC Records continued with Nalin & Kane and Sonic Youth as its only artists until 2003. In 2007, it was relaunched as a direct subsidiary of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. In September 2021, DGC was once again permanently merged into Geffen Records, transferring the remains of its roster to either Geffen or Interscope.

Counterfeit / unofficial releases that pretend to be issued under this label must use DGC instead.
