Principal activities of the group - record production / distribution, music publishing, management, administration and holding company for the worldwide operations of the Chrysalis Group of companies and associated subsidiaries.

The roots of the company were founded by Chris Wright CBE and Terry Ellis on 18 October 1967 as "The Ellis Wright Agency Ltd." On 24 September 1968 the company was renamed "Chrysalis Artistes Ltd." until a further name change on 9 January 1975 to "The Chrysalis Group Ltd." On 10 January 1985 this initial company was renamed "Chrysalis Holdings Ltd."

Subsequently on 10 July 1985 a newly registered related company (incorporated on 10 January 1985) operating under the name "Chrysalis Group Ltd." acquires and merges with "Management Agency And Music PLC." (Management Agency And Music, Ltd.) and is subsequently renamed Chrysalis Group PLC.

On 4 February 2011, Chrysalis PLC and its subsidiaries were acquired by BMG RM Investments SARL, a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. On the same date Chrysalis Group PLC was re-registered as a private company to 'Chrysalis Group Limited'.
