GRT Records

GRT is the acronym of California-based General Recorded Tape, a recording tape manufacturer which expanded into the record business. It first established its own label and then bought out Chess Records from Phil and Leonard Chess during 1969. GRT also owned Janus Records, under which they placed the Chess label administration in the early 1970s. Motto: "The Great Tapes". GRT had exclusive license to release cassette, 8-track and open-reel-tape versions of albums for a number of labels during most of the the 1970's, including ABC Records and Buddah Records for example. via Discogs →
