AESEG is an acronym that means "Associação das Escolas de Samba do Estado da Guanabara", it was a carnival entity that resulted from the merger of the FBES = "Federação Brasileira das Escolas de Samba" ("Brazilian Federation of Samba Schools") with the URSB = "União Geral das Escolas de Samba" ("General Union of Samba Schools").

After the merger of the State of Rio de Janeiro, AESEG became known as AESCRJ = "Associação das Escolas de Samba da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro" ("Association of Samba Schools of the City of Rio de Janeiro").
