A New York hip hop label that released many classic hip hop records from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Founded in 1986 with Len Fichtelberg serving as President, it initially operated closely with Fichtelberg's Prism label. In late 1987, it signed a five year distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records corporate parent and effectively began to operate as an imprint until early 1994. It was subsequently distributed by Epic Street/SME Records and transitioned into a reissue label as it ceased issuing new material.
