US label; also appears as "Scepter" only. Started by Florence Greenberg in 1959 with $ 4.000 from the sale of [l747422], with The Shirelles, to Decca. When The Shirelles didn't produce any hits for Decca, they were given back to Greenberg, who promptly signed them.

In 1976 Florence Greenberg decided to retire from the business and sold her record labels to Springboard International Records, Inc.. When Springboard went bankrupt, Gusto Records (2) acquired the catalog. Florence Greenberg died November 2, 1995, of heart failure.

Scepter was exclusively manufactured and distributed in Canada by Quality Records Limited (often on their Lo-Fi Stereo, Barry and Soma Quality Recordings labels) until the end of 1967. At the start of 1968 manufacturing and distributing of Scepter switched to The Compo Company Ltd.. In 1970 Compo was amalgamated into MCA Records (Canada) who handled Scepter until 1973. In 1973 Scepter was handled by Polydor Ltd. until 1976.
